Does Best Buy charge restocking fees?

For select categories (activatable devices, drones, DSLR/mirrorless cameras and lenses, projectors, special-order items), yes — commonly $45 for activatable devices or 15% of the price. That's a frequent reason a refund is smaller than expected.

Common denial reasons

  • Past the (short) return window
  • Missing serial numbers or UPCs
  • Final-sale items (some open-box clearance)
  • Damaged or missing accessories

Refund delayed playbook

  • In-store returns refund fastest; mail-in refunds start when the warehouse receives the item.
  • Restocking fees (often 15% on select items like drones, DSLR cameras, projectors) are deducted before the refund — check if that explains a 'short' refund.
