How long does an Amazon refund take?
Typically 3–5 business days to a credit card after the return is processed, up to 10 for debit cards or bank accounts, and 2–3 hours for gift card balance. Processing can add time if the item goes to a returns center first.

Return window overview
Most items can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Holiday purchases usually get extended windows. Third-party seller policies can differ — check the seller's return policy on the order page.
Receipt rules
- You don't need a paper receipt — your order history is your proof of purchase.
- Gift returns can be started with the order number or a gift receipt; refunds usually go to a gift card balance.
- For third-party sellers, keep the order confirmation email as proof.
Label rules and drop-off options
- Many drop-off options are label-free: show the QR code from the returns page at a UPS Store, Kohl's, or Whole Foods.
- If you chose a mail-in option, you must print the label — or restart the return and pick a QR-code option instead.
- Return labels and QR codes expire — usually you must ship within the return window.
- Drop-off option: UPS Store (QR code, no box/label needed for many items)
- Drop-off option: Kohl's (QR code, no box/label needed)
- Drop-off option: Whole Foods (QR code)
- Drop-off option: Amazon Locker / Amazon Fresh / Amazon Go
- Drop-off option: Staples (select areas)
- Drop-off option: USPS mail-in with printed label

Common denial reasons
- Item returned outside the return window
- Item is different from what was ordered (wrong item in the box)
- Item shows use or damage beyond inspection
- Hazmat or restricted items that can't be shipped back
- Third-party seller policy is stricter than Amazon's default
Refund delayed playbook
- Check the return status under Your Orders — 'refund issued' and 'money in your account' are different steps.
- Count business days from when tracking shows the return delivered, not from your drop-off date.
- If it's past the typical window, contact support with your tracking number and drop-off receipt.
- If Amazon says the return wasn't received, gather your drop-off proof before escalating.
